7 steps to create your own online training module
Companies are in perpetual transformation, imposed by the market or by legislation, which requires regular training of employees. An online training module makes it possible to meet this need, and also to train new employees.
You can use trainings from providers, but also produce your own online trainings, tailored to your specific needs, not covered by providers.
The project to create an online training, must follow the seven steps outlined in this article.
Make sure you follow them to ensure the success of your internal online training.
How to create your own online training?
The basis for creating an online training module is the content. If you have teams capable of creating multimedia content, you’ll be able to start your online training project. However, be sure to follow the six basic steps.
Step 1: Specify the reasons and objectives of your online training project
Before launching your online training project, and like any other project, its objectives should be clearly determined. For this you must answer the questions below:
What is the purpose of your online training?
What are the profiles of those who will participate in the online training?
Why will they take this training?
Finally, the answer to these kinds of questions helps define your requirements and expectations for your online training.
Step 2: Collect the existing content needed for the online training
In general, the content of the online training exists, in part less. All business activities are documented, by different departments and services, and in different formats.
So you have to collect all the existing content and concerning your online training, including:
- Ratings and comments
- Current presentation medium
- Videos
- Audio
- Pictures
Once you have collected all the existing content, you will be able to identify the content that remains to be produced for your online training.
Step 3: Create additional content to build your online training
You have collected existing content. Now you need to create the missing content to have online training content that meets the goals of your online training.
It is imperative for it to have a specialist in multimedia content creation with the appropriate design tools, in order to create multimedia content necessary for your online training.
Step 4: Design your online training
You have the complete content of your online training module, between the existing one you have collected and the new one you have created. But it remains to create a script that meets the requirements consolidated in the first step and the topics to be covered.
The script creates the interactions, the assessments and specifies the time that the trainee must spend to achieve the goal.
Then validate the content and the script with the stakeholders concerned by the online training.
Step 5: Define the visual appearance and graphics of your online training
Your online training should have consistent and appealing graphics and visuals. This step is to define the images, colors, fonts, movements or animations that will be used to create a cohesive online training.
Consistency is achieved during the creation of the online training script.
Step 6: Develop material for your course
At this point, you have gathered all the elements you will need to create eLearning content for your team. Now is the time to develop these elements: the core of your project.
Record all audio portions. Create charts. Use screen capture software to create videos. The eLearning authoring tools we discuss in another article can help you do this.
Step 7: Assemble into one cohesive course And then put these pieces together
There are some free software that can help you bring all your disparate pieces together into one cohesive course. After this step, you will also send your new course to company stakeholders for review, suggestion of changes, and final approval.
